The 14-4-1 Providence Bruins have excited this season and Brady Lyle has been a key piece of it. The right-shot defenseman has just been signed to his Entry-Level Contract. A two-year, $800K deal made official this morning, and here is the breakdown.
In nineteen games with Providence, Brady Lyle has netted six goals and added six helpers for twelve points. In his previous season with the Owen Sound Attack, he sported the “A” and put in twenty-two goals, added forty-three assists for sixty-five points in sixty-two games. He's playing this season on an AHL deal and was going to be signed in the off-season but the question was, by who? Teams had been sniffing around on the underrated AHL defenseman but Boston was lucky enough to grab him and it is unclear when he will make his NHL debut.
With six goals Brady Lyle is leading the AHL in goals scored by a defenseman. He also is the sixteenth highest scoring defender in the AHL. After being undrafted Lyle seems to be on a mission with something to prove.
Journalist Mark Divver who is an A+ source for all your Providence Bruins info had this to say about Lyle:
“Lyle, a 6-3, 213 pound right shot D, has been a very nice free-agent find. Poised with the puck… played 5 seasons for North Bay & Owen Sound in the OHL”
Lyle has a very useful style of play that can be used in many systems. While being a great offensive force he is also very good defensively. Matching a similar style of play to the likes of Charlie McAvoy or Mike Reilly. Every night he is a noticeable defenseman and excels where he can set up a play showing off a high-level hockey IQ. Not the one you see in the highlight but the one who sets up the highlight. If his high-impact play can translate to the NHL level he could be a good piece. Lyle's large build will help him adjust to an NHL style of play a lot easier than most.
After being taken in the first round of the OHL draft Brady Lyle was an excellent catch for the Bruins scouting and front office, excited to see what he can do if he makes his NHL debut.
