Pre-Game Outlook: Bruins vs Islanders

The Boston Bruins have officially kicked off the 2020-2021 season with a 2-game campaign against the New Jersey Devils. The Bruins walked away with three out of four possible points with a shootout win and an overtime loss. Today they will take on the New York Islanders led by speedy center Matthew Barzal. Here is the full outlook of the game.

The Islanders played the New York Rangers twice for their first 2 games of the season, winning once. Their season opener was a 4-0 win and they followed it up 2 days later with a 6-2 loss. Boston finished week one with a win and a loss that both needed extra time. A 3-2 win thanks to the overtime and shootout heroics of Tuukka Rask and Brad Marchand. As well as a 2-1 loss in an overall sloppy game.

Analyzing the projected rosters for each team we have:

NYI:

Lee - Barzal - Eberle

Beauvilliver - Nelson - Bailey

Bellows - Pageau - Johnston

Martin - Cizikas - Clutterbuck

Pelech - Pulock

Leddy - Mayfield

Greene - Dobson

Varlamov

Schneider

BOS:

Marchand - Bergeron - Debrusk

Ritchie - Krejci - Studnicka

Bjork - Coyle - Smith

Frederic - Kuraly - Wagner

Lauzon - McAvoy

Grzelcyk - Carlo

Zboril - Miller

Rask

Halak

Both teams have some players injured including goaltender Semyon Varlamov who took a puck to the upper shoulder/neck area in warm-ups of Saturdays Islanders-Rangers game.

Michael Del Colle is also injured for reasons that remain undisclosed. Varlamov will be available according to head coach Barry Trotz but they may still give rookie Ilya Sorokin another look in net.

For Boston Ondrej Kase took a somewhat high hit from Miles Wood in the corner early in the

second period. He left the game and was later ruled out. He is doubtful to play and other injured player Craig Smith will most likely play. His availability was in question due to a missed practice but it was later revealed he was taking a maintenance day for a lower-body injury.

The Boston Bruins right wing depth takes a blow with Ondrej Kase being out. Jack Studnicka will replace him on the second line and hopefully he can have a good impact. The Islanders roster is pretty much unchanged besides Michael Del Colle. More updates on the lineups will come before puck drop as well.

Both the Boston Bruins and New York Islanders are good teams who have the potential to win this game. If the Boston Bruins get a good night from Tuukka Rask and their offense improves from the last game, it could be two points on the board for Boston. If not? Well, we'll have to find out at 5 o'clock this afternoon.
