Pierre-Luc Dubois ➡️ Boston?

Within the last few days, there have been rumbling rumors of former 3rd overall pick being dealt to BOS, WPG, OTT, PIT, or ANA. The Blue Jackets re-signed Dubois to a 2 year, $5M AAV contract a couple days ago, but Dubois wants to be traded to a team on a bigger stage. Boston surely is a large stage, as they have sold out every game for the past 12 years, and are an original-six franchise.

The 22 year old center man is coming off of a somewhat down year after a stronger 2018-19 campaign with the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he plotted 27G and 34A, while not missing a single game of the regular season. Fast forward a year, Dubois posted 18G and 31A in 70 games played, during the odd 2019-20 season. It is important to note that Dubois was playing on a team where their top point-getters besides Dubois were Gustav Nyquist and Oliver Bjorkstrand.

Dubois is a big body, coming in at 6’3”, 218 LBS. He provides great strength, passing, and scoring abilities. The Bruins were on the hunt to find a big, physical player during the 2020 trade deadline. GM Don Sweeney ended up trading Danton Heinen for Nick Ritchie at the deadline, which hasn’t worked out to well for the Bruins just yet. Dubois, being a center, would likely have to become a winger for the Bruins. With Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, and Charlie Coyle taking up the top 3 center spots, Dubois would most likely become a 2LW in place of Jake DeBrusk.

You may ask, what would a potential trade look like? It is obvious that the Blue Jackets don’t need any backend help, as they have Zach Werenski, Seth Jones, Denis Savard, and Vladislav Gavrikov making up a solid top-4. It is also clear that they don’t need any goaltending assistance, as they have Elvis Merzlinkins and Jonas Korpisalo, making up a top-tier goaltending duo. This leaves Columbus interested in players like Jake DeBrusk, Ondrej Kase, Anders Bjork, and maybe even a Nick Ritchie or Trent Frederic, gritty-type of player. As a Bruins fan who would hate to give up ANOTHER first round pick, I would be OK dealing it for a young, talented player like Dubois. Here’s my mock trade:

Boston Acquires:

» F, Pierre-Luc Dubois

Columbus Acquires:

» F, Jake DeBrusk

» F, Anders Bjork

» F, Trent Frederic

» 2021 1st Round Pick

» 2022 2nd Round Pick

Potential Top-9 With Dubois:

Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak

Dubois-Krejci-Kase

Studnicka-Coyle-Smith
